What is PJM Grid Support?
This program supports the PJM regional grid, which spans from Chicago to the east coast.
During a grid emergency like a hot summer day, PJM will ask Optiwatt to pause your EV charging and/or shift your thermostat temperature to reduce the load on the grid. Historically, each event averaged 3 hours.
To apply, you'll grant our partner, Voltus, access to your utility account so that they can monitor your electricity consumption during these events.
Here are some additional details on when an emergency event might occur:
Summer (June - October 2026 + May 2027)
10 AM - 10PM Eastern Max duration: 12 hours total over the entire summer
Winter (November 2026 - April 2027)
6AM - 9PM Eastern Max duration: 15 hours total over the entire winter
What is the enrollment deadline?
