What are the goals of this program?
This program is a technology test to show how SCE can integrate the system that monitors the electric grid to send requests to Optiwatt in areas experiencing high power demand. Optiwatt will shift the EV charging of vehicles in that area to reduce grid stress by smoothing out the number of vehicles that are charging at the same time.
Are there Terms and Conditions for this program?
Yes, by enrolling in this program you are agreeing to these Terms & Conditions.
How will this program affect my EV?
Occasionally, your EV charging may be paused temporarily to improve grid reliability. When this happens, you’ll get a push notification for a demand response event and will be able to see more details when you log into the Optiwatt app. Your car will be charged to your preferred charge limit and Ready By time each day.
What if I need to charge immediately during a demand response event?
You can opt out of a specific event through the Optiwatt app or by starting the charge from your vehicle or manufacturer’s app.
Why is SCE offering this program?
This program helps SCE manage peak electricity demand, plan for the future of transportation electrification, and keep costs down for all customers.
Do I have to pay to participate?
No, there’s no cost to join the program.
Who is eligible to participate?
You must be a Southern California Edison residential electric customer with an eligible electric vehicle (EV). Your vehicle must be connected to the internet to share charging data.
How do I enroll?
Enrollment is easy! Just download the Optiwatt app or website. Once you create an account and verify your address, you can connect your EV or charger to the program.
Can I enroll more than one vehicle?
Yes! There is no limit to the number of eligible devices you can enroll per household.
How do I stop participating in the program?
If you decide to unenroll, you may do so easily in the Programs tab for your EV on the mobile or web Optiwatt app. Alternatively, you may email support@optiwatt.com to unenroll at any time. We highly recommend chatting with our support team to address any concerns or challenges with the program before unenrolling.
Will I still be able to charge my EV when I need it?
Absolutely. You are always in control. You can set your preferred departure time and charge limit, and you can override or opt out of managed charging at any time.
Who do I contact if I have questions or want to unenroll?
You can manage your enrollment directly in the Optiwatt app or web portal at any time. For help, contact Optiwatt support at support@optiwatt.com.
What is a controllable vs a non-controllable vehicle?
Optiwatt optimizes vehicle charging around user preferences by sending start/stop charging commands and receiving automated dispatch signals for controllable vehicles. While non-controllable vehicles can connect to the platform, they cannot be directly controlled due to specific limitations. However, users with non-controllable vehicles can still utilize the Optiwatt platform to receive actionable insights for managing their vehicle charging.
