What are Optiwatt programs?
Optiwatt partners with utility companies and grid operators to offer programs. Programs vary by utility and location, and not all users will have programs available.
How to check if you have programs available
- Log in to Optiwatt and go to your Devices page.
- Select the vehicle or device you'd like to enroll.
- Click the Programs tab.
- Look for the Available Programs section at the top. If programs are available for your utility and location, they'll be listed here. If it shows Available Programs (0), there are no programs currently available for your device.
How to enroll in a program
- On the Programs tab, click on a program listed under Available Programs.
- Review the program details page, which includes:
- Program Rewards — How much you can earn (enrollment bonus and annual participation rewards)
- Program Summary — What the program does and how it works
- Give — What you're agreeing to provide (typically a few minutes to sign up and permission to pause charging for a few hours during events)
- Get — What you'll receive in return (typically money)
- If you have questions about the program, click Visit Program FAQ Page to read the utility's own FAQ.
- When you're ready to join, scroll to the bottom and click Enroll.
- Follow any additional steps required by the utility (some programs may require you to complete enrollment on the utility's website).
- Once enrolled, the program will appear under All programs with an Enrolled badge.
What happens after enrollment?
After enrolling, Optiwatt will automatically manage your vehicle's charging during any demand response events called by the utility. During these events, your vehicle's charging may be paused for a period of time. Optiwatt will resume charging afterward to ensure your car is ready for your departure.
You don't need to do anything during events — it's fully automated.
How to unenroll from a program
If you decide a program isn't right for you:
- Go to Devices > select your vehicle > Programs tab.
- Under All programs, click on the program you want to leave.
- Scroll to the bottom of the program detail page and click Unenroll.
Be a Watt Hero
In addition to utility programs, the Programs tab also shows the Be a Watt Hero section, which has two optional toggles:
- Improve Your Air Quality — Optiwatt will prioritize charging your vehicle when your local grid is powered by renewable energy sources.
- Support Your Local Grid — Automatically joins programs that reduce grid stress by shifting charging to more efficient times. This is enabled by default.
You can toggle these on or off at any time based on your personal preferences.
Tracking your rewards
If a program offers rewards, and they are administered through Optiwatt, they will appear in your Rewards section, accessible from the left navigation menu. Note that some programs (like PSEG FlexPower) pay rewards outside of Optiwatt directly from the program partner — these will be shown in your program details with a note indicating this.
No programs available for your location?
Program availability depends on your utility and geographic area. If you don't see any available programs, there are two common reasons:
Your utility information is missing or incorrect
Optiwatt may use your utility provider to determine which programs you're eligible for. If your utility isn't set or is set to the wrong provider, eligible programs won't appear. To check and update your utility information:
- Click Profile in the left navigation menu.
- In the Utility Information card, review your Utility Provider and Utility Plan.
- If either is missing or incorrect, click Manage at the bottom of the card (or go directly to Manage Utility Information).
- Click Edit next to Utility Name to update your provider, or Edit next to Plan Name to update your rate plan.
- Save your changes, then return to your vehicle's Programs tab to check for newly available programs.
Note: Changing your utility information may affect any programs you're already enrolled in — Optiwatt will display a warning listing any affected enrollments before you save.
Optiwatt doesn't have a program partnership with your utility yet
Even with correct utility information, programs are only available where Optiwatt has an active partnership. If no programs appear after verifying your utility, Optiwatt may not have a program in your area yet. Check back periodically as new programs are added regularly.
