Why is Colorado Springs Utilities offering this program?
This program helps Colorado Springs Utilities manage peak electricity demand, plan for the future of transportation electrification, and keep costs down for all customers.
Who is eligible to participate?
You must be a Colorado Springs Utilities residential electric customer with an eligible electric vehicle (EV) or plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Your vehicle must be connected to the internet to share charging data.
How does managed charging work?
Managed charging shifts your EV charging to off-peak times when electricity demand is lower. This can happen automatically through your vehicle or your home charger, or by following recommendations you receive through the Optiwatt app or web portal. You can always override and charge whenever you need.
How do I enroll?
Enrollment is easy! Just download the Optiwatt app or sign up through the web portal at Optiwatt.com. Once you create an account and verify your address, you can connect your EV or charger to the program.
Can I enroll more than one vehicle?
Yes! There is no limit to the number of eligible devices you can enroll per household.
What is the EV Managed Charging Program?
The EV Managed Charging Program allows you to optimize your electric vehicle (EV) charging to avoid on-peak hours. By participating, you help reduce stress on the local electric grid, all while ensuring your EV is charged when you need it.
Do I have to pay to participate?
No, there’s no cost to join the program.
How do I stop participating in the program?
If you decide to unenroll, you may do so easily in the Programs tab for your EV on the mobile or web Optiwatt app. Alternatively, you may email support@optiwatt.com to unenroll at any time. We highly recommend chatting with our support team to address any concerns or challenges with the program before unenrolling.
Will I still be able to charge my EV when I need it?
Absolutely. You are always in control. You can set your preferred departure time and charge limit, and you can override or opt out of managed charging at any time.
Who do I contact if I have questions or want to unenroll?
You can manage your enrollment directly in the Optiwatt app or web portal at any time. For help, contact Optiwatt support at support@optiwatt.com.
What is a controllable vs a non-controllable vehicle?
Optiwatt optimizes vehicle charging around user preferences by sending start/stop charging commands and receiving automated dispatch signals for controllable vehicles. While non-controllable vehicles can connect to the platform, they cannot be directly controlled due to specific limitations. However, users with non-controllable vehicles can still utilize the Optiwatt platform to receive actionable insights for managing their vehicle charging.
