What is the EV Managed Charging Program?
The EV Managed Charging Program helps to manage the electric load to support the grid in Clark County. This will allow Clark Public Utilities to keep costs low, maintain grid reliability, reduce carbon impact, and continue to provide excellent service to its customers. Customers who participate will be dispatched for scheduled charging events typically four hours long, roughly 20 times per month, starting in Q1 of 2024 through the Optiwatt app. You will always have the power to opt out of these events if participating would cause an inconvenience.
How will this affect my charging schedule?
By participating in the study, you agree to allowing Optiwatt in partnership with Clark Public Utilities manage your vehicle's charging. If you are a participant, this includes participating in roughly 20 scheduled charging events per month, with each event lasting about four hours. You will have the opportunity to opt out of these events if participating would cause an inconvenience. Aside from the scheduled charging events, the Optiwatt app can help you conveniently optimize your charging to while ensuring your car is charged when you need it.
If I agree to participate in the EV Managed Charging Program with Optiwatt, what will I receive?
You will receive $25 upon completing enrollment for your first and second eligible vehicles, and $25 each upon program completion. Rewards will be provided as a bill credit directly on your Clark Public Utilities account and will not be increased if you have three or more vehicles participating. You will also receive free access to the Optiwatt app, which contains many valuable features for understanding and controlling your electric vehicle’s home charging.
Will this study prevent me from charging my EV?
No. You will always have the option to opt-out of scheduled charging events. If you choose to use Optiwatt's optional charging features, Optiwatt will prioritize your departure time and charge limit preference to ensure you always have the battery you need.
How long will the program last?
This program will last through the end of 2024. Stay tuned for potential program extensions or additional program opportunities.
How many vehicles can participate in the study?
800 vehicles may participate in this program.
When will I receive my incentive?
You will receive the bill credit once you have been confirmed eligible for participation. As such, initial payment may take 1-2 months from the date you enroll. The same is true for the end-of-program reward.
How do I participate in the program?
To participate, Clark Public Utilities customers may simply connect your EV to the Optiwatt mobile or desktop app and enable the EV Managed Charging Program enrollment toggle in the “Charging” section of the app. No additional steps are required - Optiwatt will automatically handle the rest.
How do I stop participating in the study?
If you decide to disenroll, you may do so easily in the EV Managed Charging Program card within the “Charging” tab of the mobile or desktop app. Alternatively, you may email support@optiwatt.com or EVcharging@clarkpud.com to disenroll at any time.
If I have more than one electric vehicle, am I eligible for two incentives?
Yes, you can receive the incentive for up to two battery electric vehicles or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles in your household. To register additional vehicles, simply connect the vehicle to Optiwatt in the “Profile” section of the mobile app or desktop site and you will be automatically qualified. You may connect and participate with more than two EVs, but the rewards will not increase beyond $50 upfront and $50 upon completion.
If I have further questions, who should I contact?
