What is the SC Electric Cooperatives EV Charging Program?
The SC Electric Cooperatives EV Charging Program helps to manage the electric load to support the grid in the South Carolina area. This will allow your electric cooperative to keep costs low, maintain grid reliability, and continue to provide excellent service to its members. Members in the Broad River, Horry, Laurens, Palmetto, or York Cooperatives who participate will be dispatched for demand response events (typically three hours long, 6 times per month, starting in Q1 of 2024) through the Optiwatt app. You will always have the power to opt out of these events if participating would cause an inconvenience. Mid-Carolina Cooperative members will not participate in demand response events, but may use the app to optimize their charging.
How long will the program last?
This program will last through the end of 2026.
How many vehicles can participate in the study?
There is no maximum number of vehicles for this program.
If I agree to participate in the SC Electric Cooperatives EV Charging Program with Optiwatt, what will I receive?
Each participating vehicle will receive $15 upon completing enrollment. Rewards will be provided as a bill credit. You will also receive free access to the Optiwatt app, which contains many valuable features for understanding and controlling your electric vehicle’s home charging.
When will I receive my incentive?
You will receive the $15 per vehicle bill credit once you have been confirmed eligible for participation. As such, initial payment may take 1-2 months from the date you enroll.
How will this affect my charging schedule?
By participating in the study, you agree to allowing Optiwatt manage your vehicle's charging. If you are a member of the Broad River, Horry, Laurens, Palmetto, or York Cooperatives, this includes participating in roughly 6 demand response events per month, with each event lasting about 3 hours. You will have the opportunity to opt out of these events if participating would cause an inconvenience. If you are a member of the Mid-Carolina Cooperative, you are still eligible to participate, but will not participate in the demand response events. The Optiwatt app can help you conveniently optimize your charging to while ensuring your car is charged when you need it.
Will this study prevent me from charging my EV?
No. You will always have the option to opt-out of demand response events. If you choose to use Optiwatt's optional charging features, Optiwatt will prioritize your departure time and charge limit preference to ensure you always have the battery you need.
How do I participate in the program?
To participate, members of participating coops may simply connect your EV to the Optiwatt mobile or desktop app and enable the SC Electric Cooperatives EV Charging Program enrollment toggle in the “Charging” section of the app. No additional steps are required - Optiwatt will automatically handle the rest.
How do I stop participating in the program?
If you decide to disenroll, you may do so easily in the SC Electric Cooperatives EV Charging Program card within the “Charging” tab of the mobile or desktop app. Alternatively, you may email support@optiwatt.com to disenroll at any time.
If I have more than one electric vehicle, am I eligible for two incentives?
Yes, you can receive the incentive for each battery electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle in your household. To register additional vehicles, simply connect the vehicle to Optiwatt in the “Profile” section of the mobile app or desktop site and you will be automatically qualified.
If I have further questions, who should I contact?
